It doesn't live in the filename. It lives in the pixel values themselves — mathematically woven into the image in a way that standard tools simply aren't built to touch.

And here's the brutal part: Nano Banana Pro, which has become the go-to SFW image generation tool across the AI OFM stack, runs on Google infrastructure and embeds SynthID in every output. Multiple separate operator groups surfaced this between late 2025 and mid-2026, and the chatter has been consistent enough to take seriously.

Why Your Normal Toolkit Fails Here

Let's be specific about what operators have historically used to dodge duplicate and AI detection — because understanding the gap is the whole point.

At least one separate operator group flagged SynthID as the suspected cause behind a broader AI account ban wave, with the discussion concentrated in early-to-mid 2026. This is CHATTER — it hasn't been independently verified, and it could be wrong, biased, or a vendor pushing alternatives.

Label it accordingly.

But the circumstantial evidence has some weight. A separate group reported losing 10,000-follower Instagram accounts when AI images passed through Sightengine (IG's detection layer) and got flagged.

Another noted that AI-model accounts were being banned because Nano Pro "leaves detectable pixels in generated images." These are distinct groups, distinct time windows, consistent direction.

One particularly specific data point from a single group (one unverified source — treat it accordingly): operators dodging AI photo detection by retaking pictures of their screen with a phone to physically re-encode pixel values and kill the embedded signal. It's the digital equivalent of a photocopy of a photocopy.

Crude. But if SynthID truly survives every software-based strip, it might be the only non-technical workaround available.

Platform-by-Platform: Who's Actually Checking

This is where the picture gets complicated — and where operators genuinely disagree.

For video, the problem is harder. Multiple operator groups noted that NSFW AI video fails AI detection checks even with substantial local hardware. Kling, Wan Animate, and Higgsfield all route through external APIs — check whether those APIs embed watermarks before committing a workflow to them.

Strip what you can, even if it doesn't kill SynthID. The Bottom Line

SynthID isn't a bug in the operator workflow. It's a structural change to the threat model.

Instagram probably isn't checking yet. TikTok and YouTube are catching some but not all.
